Hello! I am Savvy Financial Latina! I’m 23, married, and living in Dallas, Texas. I come from a very modest low-income family where I learned hard work and determination pay off. I didn’t have it all. I worked hard during school, and received a 100% 4 year scholarship to university (My parents helped pay for my living expenses for three years! I’m very thankful!). I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Global Business (Major Honors, Magna Cum Laude) in 3 years at age 21, and then graduated a year later with my Master’s in Supply Chain Management at 22. A year later, I finished my MBA at age 23; again debt-free! I met my hubby in college and we have been married for almost 2 years now 🙂
During school, I did internships, volunteered, became a student leader, worked for a start-up, and consulted with a company for 6 months. I was offered several competitive offers, and decided to accept an offer with the company I had consulted with for 6 months during graduate school.
We don’t have crazy amount of debt. Through hard work, some luck, and help from family I graduated with no debt. My hubby worked through his undergraduate studies, lived at home, and his parents paid for his tuition. We had a $5K car loan that we quickly paid off.
I work as an sourcing analyst for a Global 500 company. I have a great job, I’m not complaining, but it’s not enough for me. You might wonder why, you might say I’m overly ambitious, but hey that’s me. I want to accomplish a lot of things in life. I want to be financially independent, contribute the maximum amount to our retirement accounts, have own our business, own our home (no debt), own our cars (no debt), be a career woman, help my mom buy a nice home, help my brother go to college, help my mom financially, travel the world, live in a different country, become an executive, contribute to charity, spoil my grandparents, among other wishes.
With so many dreams, I need goals to stay objective (Check out the Goals tab).
I think knowledge is power. When I was growing up, people hoarded knowledge to stay ahead, and my family due to circumstances often found out information too late. I made it a goal to be as informed as possible. I don’t always have it right, but I want to share what I know, and I want to see what other people know, too!
