First Paycheck Emotions
Hello peeps! Hope everyone had a great 4th of July! It’s been a week since my last post, and not a lot has changed. I am finishing off my second week of work, and it’s been pretty slow. Half the office is away on holiday, my boss is still out of town, and I am still semi-locked out of systems that I need to get work done. It’s just part of the on boarding process :/
I received my first paycheck yesterday. When I saw it, I jumped inside my head and did a little dance move!
It’s always good to have money coming in, instead of going out! I, then, opened, and gasped at the number. I didn’t realize 1/3 of my check would be missing and going to social security, medicare, and federal taxes. I mean…I expected to be paying all these things, but just did not realize the impact on a single paycheck. I haven’t even started 401K contributions or deducting for my flexible health spending account. 😮
Since my husband hasn’t started working full-time, it looks like I will have to adjust our budget and my retirement contributions. Our budget will be a max of $2500, and I will have to lower my 401K until he finds his job. My first paycheck will go to paying off bills and buying food and gas; nothing too exciting there.
I have also been babysitting on the side, earning some extra $$$. I owe some money to my mom, so all the money earned will go to her.
We sign the lease to our new apartment today! I am so excited, I am counting down the hours until I get off work.
It’ll be nice to have our own place again, and I will be 1 mile from work (5 minutes). I am, also, hoping this helps my husband buckle down and start his job search.
My husband reminded me that our 1 year anniversary is coming up in exactly a month! For some reason, I thought we were still three months away. People keep asking how long I have been married, and I keep answering 9 months. I wonder how many months I have been saying nine months? Lol He wants to do something special. Any ideas?
How did you feel when you earned your first paycheck? What is it both exciting and shocking?
